I have been looking online for an apartment that is free of mold to move into in February. I’ve been reading a lot of reviews online and it seems like mold is a problem out there too. How do I know which apartments are safe? Most of these apartment complexes want to do virtual tours and stopped in person tours too. I would be very grateful for some assistance from people who live there! TYIA!
Are you talking about moldy apartments in Albuquerque? That is not normal around here. Even after a year of high humidity (30% often, which is not high like other places) if you keep your place clean you don't get mold. Mildew could grow on your shower wall if you never clean it and take long daily showers. Otherwise the only time you will find mold is when the pipes are leaking or in the refrigerator.
Now, desert places like Phoenix and Scottsdale where people have planted huge lawns and non desert flroa and fauna, do have lots of mold issues. It is why Valley Fever is so bad in those areas.
Look for reviews from previous tenants specifically mentioning mold issues that can give you insights into the cleanliness and maintenance of the apartments.
Ask for recent photos or videos of the specific unit you're interested in, paying attention to areas prone to mold growth such as bathrooms, kitchens, and basements. Look closely at the images provided during virtual tours for any visible signs of mold, such as discoloration on walls or ceilings, musty odors, or water stains.
