Burque:
I know long-time ABQeans always cited this one as one of the "true" or "long time" nicknames, but this one always is the one that kind of annoys me.
ABQ:
Airport code. Same as calling Milwaukee MKE or the like. Good, easy, efficient way to describe the town without typing out "A-l-b-u-q-u-e-r-q-u-e"...
Q or "The Q":
I know long time ABQeans hate this one. I have never quite understood why. I always thought it was fairly descriptive and unique with a city with a heckuva lot more Qs in its name than other towns.
Duke City:
Just as El Paso is the "Sun City" and Denver is the "Mile High City", Albuquerque is the "Duke City". Classic and timeless. Great name.
The Big Al:
Never have even heard this one. I would definitely not be a big fan of "The Big Al" but didn't "vote" for it as again, just haven't heard it (not to say it isn't used).
The 505:
Isn't this more though to describe NM in general than just ABQ? I think it is kind of dopey, although since up until very recently the entire state only had the one area code, I didn't mind it quite as much describing NM as, say, someone from San Diego citing coming from "the 619" or something.
Albuturkey:
Never heard this one before either. I guess if I had more often, I wouldn't be a fan at all, as it doesn't even make sense to me.
Albuquirky:
I Actually kind of like this one, as ABQ certainly is quirky (and almost all to me in a good way).
