Just told by a co-worker that residents smelled smoke the day before and they had an electrician go out and didn't find anything. Don't know if this is true or not, but boy is that guy probably in for it. Yikes!

I heard the interior is a complete loss. I hope they can remodel and don't end up demolishing the superstructure. Undoubtedly, some monstrosity will go up in its place.

A coworker lived there. She was very upset and worried about her cats, but was reunited with one of them yesterday. She was featured on the channel 7 news story that ran last night. I'm happy for her that one of her two cats was found. I feel bad that she lost everything. She wasn't home when the fire started so all she has now is what she was wearing when she left her apartment earlier that day.

It looked like a beautiful structure from what I can see from Ryberts photos. Such a shame to have had that happen. I know the feeling well for I lost my home back in Feb. And I lost 2 dogs in the fire. So devistating.

I doubt it's salvageable either. I hope the tenants had rental insurance ( these were rental apartments, right? ) and did not lose anything really irreplaceable.
Whenever I hear of these things it reminds me that I need to take some documents to the safety deposit box...especially my son's birth certificate. I doubt we could ever get a copy of it.

It's a real tradgedy to lose one's possessions. A greater tradgedy to lose a loved one (pet or family member).

I think you're right Bradly, the property will probably be leveled.

I always liked that building. It was a Central Avenue favorite.
I thought it was older, but the news reported it as only being sixty years old.

Also, let this be a reminder to youse:

Digitize your photos. ................................. Store copies off-site.
Make regular back-ups of your other stuff. .... Ditto.
Be anal.
.......... see my picture under "anal" in the dictionary.
