As for the can vs. bottle debate, I don't care what my beer comes in as long as its not green bottles. Skunky beer is nasty (although it seems the Dutch enjoy it that way!).
There are some really good Belgian beers, you just picked a "mass produced lager" as an example, and if you know that's what it is (as those were your words) then why would you think it equals good Belgian beer? I hate this type of attitude towards US beer. No, it isn't all just Bud, Coors, and Miller type beers (these def have a purpose though so snobs crack me up when they attack them). Same thing with my old home in St. Louis, there are like 20-30 microbreweries in the metro yet people judge the entire beer scene on one beer...

I get what you're feeling though, there are way too many ignorant people who order import beer because it's "classy/chic/better/other stupid reason". If you prefer a beer then great, but this idea that Stella/Heineken/etc. are so much better because they're imported is hilarious after living here in Europe for a while. I'm sure many over here would be quite amused to find out that people feel so classy drinking their "Bud/Miller/Coors/etc.", Stella is even one of the cheapest here...

Cool - I always treated the thought of Belgian beer in a can like some people think of Bigfoot - just cuz I haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Thanks for pointing out these links and I'll be on the lookout next time I'm buying beer.
