I love White Bordeaux too, George.
I think Im going to try that one from Childress coming from a reputable place it should be ok. I always wanted to check that place out anyways. Plus I get to drink what my grandfather's cow fertilize land. Our family sold some of my grandfather land to Richard for the vineyard. I probably could walk to their old house. Im glad we didnt spread my late fathers ashes their or the drinking would be creepy..hehe

This has been a fun thread and I learned quite a few things Mainly I been drinking cheap yucky stuff that is no better than a bottle of 20/20 hehe

I buy cold duck or astispumante - I prefer extra brut myself, but my dh does not. He likes his a little sweeter.

I usually pay around $10 for mine. Sometimes they are on sale at the grocery store for $6.99 I just love the stuff.

Can't tell you much about the pricey stuff, though.

Sophia by Coppola = the same taste/quality of a hundred dollar champagne. You can get it at Cost Plus/World Market. I like the 2006 version & it isn't as good in the canned six pack - preservatives used in metal cans.

OH, I see it's NOT champagne. Sorry. Blanc de blanc??? But it's just as good if not better! I'd try it if I were you: for a special occasion? Francis Coppola Sofia Blanc de Blancs 2006

I love Viognier...all I saw was champagne and gave that as a suggestion, sorry to the OP!

Gewurztraminer??? It's sweet like a Riesling but I like it...you might want to give that a try.

Try looking for an Austrian or dry riesling. I had one once at a winery in NJ which was great, and then plenty more while in Vienna (I didn't realize that German rieslings are the sweet ones and Austrian are drier). It's pretty good, though a little harder to find than the sweet variety.

Op

There is a difference in Champagne and Sparking wines

Champagne is a "dry" (slighty sour/bitter) type of bubbly wine.
if you see "Brut" that means its even more dry...Champagne drinkers love this dry aspect.

A Sparking wine is bottled like a champagne, but is sweeter. the're very inexpensive and very expensive sparkling wines...so the flavor differs.

someone mentioned Rossi Asti Supmante...

A Supmante is an Italian sweet sparking wine...Rossi is about medium price 13$

I like and serve Cinzano asti supmante 8-11$ i think it tastes better than Rossi

I don't drink much but I do like champagne. I've had all kinds from cheap to "I can't believe we paid this much!!". Funny thing is the one I enjoy the most is Cooks. It's an incredibly cheap brut that I get at BevMo. And not a regular bottle, one of those big giant bottles, for around $7. It's great alone but because I like to mix it with other things (juices, flavors, etc.) I like a strong taste that doesn't get lost in the mix. It's perfect for that too.

So it ok to mix it with things like juice? My pookie doesnt like juice either so is there something else.
Im worried he will not like the champagne no matter what the price tag.
We never drank anything inthe six years together so I would like to try to make it pleasant for the both of us New Years Eve night

You could try orange juice for a mimosa. It's also really good if you put a little grand marnier in there, too. You could also buy some peach juice or peach nectar and make a Bellini (technically made with prosecco and white peach puree, but I've done it with Goya peach nectar and it's been good). I also like putting things like pomegranate seeds in the champagne. Strawberries are also popular.

I'm not sure what you would mix it with besides juice, as I feel like it's either that or just plain champagne. What does he like to drink? Maybe you could make something bubbly out of other ingredients for him?
