It can change the Ph balance internally, and cause infections, as you've discovered. Why do you need lubricant anyway? Women manufacture their own lubricant. If you know what you're doing, and you're not rushing things, it shouldn't be a problem.
You should brush up on facts before you make those kinds of statements. There are several reasons women might need extra lubrication.
There are prescriptions and OTC remedies for that.
I can personally attest that they don't always work. Lack of proper lube applied occasionally can make it difficult for all involved. Even when Meds are tried first.
Be aware that some lubricants or lubricant substitutes can weaken condoms and cause tearing.
Also know that friction can cause what appears to be an allergic reaction such as swelling, redness, and itching so consider testing out any new lubricants under non sexual circumstances before using them for intercourse.
And one last thing, some ladies are allergic to semen. If an allergic reaction happens over and over, try and limit exposure, take an antihistamine, and see a doctor for an allergy test.
Being in SF you'll appreciate that the product was told to me by one of my gay friends. It's big in the gay community if you know what I mean. It's an excellent lubricant that the body easily accepts. It does not get all gummy or sticky.
Gay men or women? Penis and vagina are not created equally.
Saliva works well. Oils like olive oil or coconut oil can be used as well.
Edit: If it's a reaction to the lubricant on a condom, make sure she isn't allergic to spermicide. It's a very uncomfortable allergy to have and it's easy to switch condom types to eliminate that possibility.

*Raising hand* I'm one of those. Antihistimines never worked; had to use condoms to completely prevent exposure.
Interesting to see men being more open to lubes than women on this thread. Regardless of age, women can want/need more lubrication than they create naturally during sex. And regardless of whether it's a medical issue or a personal preference, not all women can or want to use a medical solution - particularly not one with estrogen.
People react differently to different products so you could have some fun trying out different lubes. However, some personal lube products have ingredients that are notorious for causing reactions - like silicon and some of those flavoring/heating agents. Astroglide is a good choice for many - it stays slippery and is water soluble. Water solubility is an important consideration - especially if she's sensitive/allergic. Many oils like petroleum jelly are not good lubes for women - and are a bad mix with condoms and diaphragms.
Depending on the nature of her lack of lubrication, spit can be a blessing or a curse. If it's not just about lube but other physiological reactions, you might want to avoid having her climax before intercourse.
Good luck - hope you find something that works for you guys.
