For about two months now, I've had a quarter sized lesion on my arm (right where your arm bends) and it alternately itches and hurts. It has now become crusty, rough and red. Skin flakes off from that spot as well.

I have chronic urticaria and will often break out in hives, rashes or little itchy patches and welts but they tend to go away rather quickly. In fact, right now I have several itchy spots on my face, shoulders and legs which feel like my normal allergy, but the spot on my arm feels different to me.

So I called my dermatologist to schedule an appointment and they can't see me until February. It was amazing to me they're that busy. I wonder if I should go to urgent care now to get it checked out or wait until my doctor's appointment in two months. I notice it a lot because every time I bend my arm, I can feel it.

My daughter has a spot exactly like that. Hers is a hive from showering in hot water, which she knows she shouldn't do but still does sometimes. She gets them on her legs and belly too. Gold Bond Ultimate Healing cream helps clear them up, but it stings if she's been scratching. She had a couple of hives on her thigh that stayed for four months because she scratched them a lot.

Oh, your daughter had her hives for four months? Ugh, that sounds like such a long time to be miserable. Mine has only been about a month, maybe two. In the last couple days, the one on my right arm has really gotten better. I'm sure it'll be totally gone by the time I see the dermatologist in Feb. -- never fails! Nothing to show when I'm actually at the doctors.

She's using benadryl cream on the one on the inside of her elbow and it looks a lot better.

When she doesn't scratch the hives, they go away by the next day. When she scratches, they'll stay for a long time. She's just a kid so sometimes she can't help scratching them. They show up every time she showers with warm or hot water.

I hate to say the obvious but she should stop showering with hot or even too warm water. It is possibly she is allergic to the chlorine or other additives that your city puts in the water to purify it and the warmer water opens the pores. My wife had a similar issue with breaking out when she first got to the US and the dermatologist told her to stop using hot water for showers and as soon as she did the problem went away.

You might also wish to try a shower head water filter, that might stop the problem if it is the chemicals causing it.

We thought it might be the chemicals in the water, but she's tried showering at a friend's house who had a water filter and still had the problem.

She knows she's not supposed to shower with warm water anymore, but sometimes she does it anyhow. She's a big kid so I'm not in the bathroom with her while she's showering and I don't want to disable the hot water in the shower because I have Raynaud's and can't shower in cold water.
