Both my dog and I have allergies and both of us has been tested for allergies. I change my air filter once a month but use Rheem. I have upped my game and now use Honeywell. Changing an air filter will help, but dusting often and vacuuming is as important as changing your filter.

I have 2 Levoits and a Winix (all hepa) and 2 cats. They do a good job of helping air quality. I see a lessening of house dust too. Frequent laundering of clothing and bedding make a big difference too. I like the white noise the purifiers make and they cool the air which is great in our long summers. I also change the house A/C filter every 1 to 2 months.

Holding or sleeping with the cats aggravate allergies so don't do much of either. Didn't used to bother me but am finding allergies in general are worsening as I age.

We no longer have pets, which makes me sad but it is what it is.

When we did have cats, I tried everything. Nothing worked. I was on the second year of allergy shots when I came down with several bouts of pneumonia. After that I wasn't allowed to get shots any more.

A few years prior to that, though, I tried an experiment. I had a half-face respirator, the kind with the removable big ugly pink filters that make you look like you starred in "The Fly".

I wore it whenever I was out of my bedroom but I never let any of the cats come in or sleep with me.

After 30 days, my allergist did a spirometry test and remarked on the dramatic improvement in my breathing. All for naught, though. I couldn't keep living that way, so I decided the cats would live out their natural lives but we wouldn't add any more to the herd.
