Your research is faulty or you are drawing incorrect conclusions on things you have read on the internet. Speak to a doctor who is knowledgeable about this subject.

Just wondering, maybe it's really bromide that's affecting things (it replaced iodine as an anti-caking agent in flour a few decades ago) -- so maybe it seems gluten-related, but maybe it's really bromide-related.

As I understand, potassium bromate (bromide) replaced potassium iodate in flour, (conditioner, anti-caking agent); and, bromide displaces iodine and prevents thyroid uptake of iodine.

So, maybe you're really 'battling' the bromide but it seems like it's the gluten (since they are both present)

You may find this interesting..... though it sounds as though Hashi's /AIT may complicate iodine supplementation and therefore warrant special care and research.

The Iodine Project

Drs Abraham Brownstein and Flechas

Drs Abraham, Brownstein and Flechas regard iodine deficiency as the leading cause of auto-immune thyroid disease in the US. This is based on the fact that auto-immune thyroid disease has increased to epidemic proportions during the past forty years, all the while Iodine levels have fallen by 50% based on NHANES government surveys.(23,24) The decline in iodine levels has been related to reduced iodine content in milk and dairy products, the removal of iodine from bread and its replacement with bromine, a goitrogen, the reduced salt intake for blood pressure control, the increased use of noniodized salt etc.(23) Drs Abraham, Brownstein and Flechas have discussed the use of Iodine in Hashimoto’s patients and conclude that Iodine supplementation is safe and beneficial in this group in the 6-50 mg per day range.(8,9)

(conclusion....)
Based on the above facts, it is obvious that iodine deficiency, not excess, is the cause of AIT.

The best way is to do the test through Entero Lab in Texas, you get a kit and send it in. I think I paid close to $500 but my doc says it's the best in the country. Other tests including blood didn't not show my celiac or gluten intolerance (I have both).

If you have Celiac you are automatically "gluten intolerant".

I have a thyroid disease (now in remission). If you have or have had an autoimmune diseases, the chances you will get others is very high. Celiac is an autoimmune disease. So is Lupus, etc. For that reason you could say thryoid disease and celiac are entwined somehow.

I do not have celiac, but I do have a gluton intolerance. My MD said I was full of crap on that BUT I used to have diarrehea, bloating, and overall uncomfortable tummy feeling every single day. I went to specialists my MD referred me to. Nothing. What helped? No more gluton. I rarely have stomach complaints nowadays.

I havent' had a bagel in a year though. I miss bagels...sniffle...
