While O Neg is the "universal donor" it isn't in any more demand than other types and in less demand than more rare types like AB pos or neg or B neg.
Sorry, wrong. A person who is AB-pos can take any blood! They have all the factors, they are the universal receivers of blood types. If AB-neg, they can take any blood type (A, B or O) that is RH neg. B-neg can take O-neg or B-neg.
I am O-neg and the Red Cross calls me constantly:
From the Red Cross:
"Type O-negative blood is needed in emergencies before the patient's blood type is known and with newborns who need blood." "It is always in great demand and often in short supply."
I'm A+, husband is B-, and our three kids are A-, AB-, and A-.
A sad thing: my in-laws are from another country and did not understand English well when they came here. Mother-in-law is type A- and was told when she was pregnant that it could be risky for her to have another child because of her negative blood type. She just accepted that little bit of information and reluctantly decided that it would be better not to have more babies. Fast forward many years--it turns out that father-in-law is also a negative type (B-) and so it would not have been an issue at all, if she'd only asked for more details and had her husband tested.
I'm A+, the second most common type. A+ people are supposedly susceptible to stress -- more likely to have higher levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, in their body. However, I've never been stressed/anxious and let things roll off my back easily.
