I went through and created a website that discusses several odd strategies used to overcome ailments like Restless legs, acne, sties, insomnia and many more. Here is the website: Odd Cures - When all else fails!
Interestingly, while going through it I realized that modern medicine is pretty crappy - Far too many of the stories I listed on my website involve doctors coming up with the wrong diagnosis costing me and the people I know thousands of dollars...!
Anyways - I look forward to hearing your response!
Good start Sci--I hadn't heard the one about restless legs and iron, but have heard Mg is good. Also would like to add that fasting for 24-48 hours is a good way to cure many ills--I had a sinus infection and it was a bad one and fasted and it was gone within 48 hours.
Medicine in many forms has been around for millennia. Western medicine has been around for only, what, 100 years? Yet it is taken as the be-all, end-all authority for everything, when in reality it's really just one more tool in a much larger toolbox. Just my opinion.
Thank you Stepka! Its nice to hear from you - its been too long since I've posted on this site - dang job! I would love to hear more about how you actually do your fast? Is it like 0 food, only water? I think you are absolutely right though - there is a lot more to learn about fasting and the physiological impacts!
Noodlecat - I agree probably the biggest surprise as I was writing the odd cures page was how many misdiagnosis me and the people I know had, costing us thousands of dollars in medical bills. Would be interesting to start collecting everyone's "Odd Cures" and see if there is any common links
If you do a search, I think we did that once before on this subforum. Maybe you could find it and we could add more to it. I think my contributions may have been ginger tea for nausea and/or honey in warm water for a sore throat. The thread might have been called old fashioned remedies, something like that.

I remember as a child (50+) years ago, that Mom was told by my doctor to let me drink Ginger Ale when I had an upset stomach. It must be the ginger, as you mentioned with the ginger tea.

Yes, old fashioned remedies
There are only certain brands that actually contain ginger. For the tea I think my mother said her mother cut thin slices of ginger and dropped them into hot water. Ginger calms nausea.
Also, in the spring, people used to gather dandelion greens to eat. You can boil or steam them or eat them raw in a salad. They have a bitter taste and are good for the liver. (They taste so horrible that I think I would rather put them in a smoothie.) But people were run down after the cold winters so this was one of the spring tonics.

Another old fashioned remedy is burdock root.
I come from an Italian heritage. My Nana made Dandelion Soup on a regular basis. Garbanzo beans, lot of garlic, and small pasta. She used a lot of fresh dark green veggies in just about everything. Italian "Peasant" Food substituting veggies for meat. You would never find any of her dishes at an Olive Garden.
During cold and flu season I will make "tea" with slices of ginger, fresh lemon, honey and hot water. The ginger not only helps with nausea, it also has antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Lemons are full of nutrients including Vitamin C. Honey is antibacterial. I'll also make soup, stew and sauces using lots of onion, garlic and herbs such as oregano. It's pretty amazing how much medicine we can find in the produce section of the grocery store, in our own backyard gardens or even countertop herb gardens. Since I've learned how to use food as medicine it's been much easier to stay healthy. It's something that I'm always interested in learning more about.
Incontinence - I know 2 ladies who resolved incontinence with progesterone. The first was by 'surprise' (taking it for bone density - but discovered the incontinence resolve). The second was about to have corrective surgery for it - but progesterone solved it for her too.
