Which one of these two groups do you believe has the strongest influences from Africa? That is culturally, not just in terms of race/admixture.

It varies within both groups in terms of degree and geography plays a part as well, but there are African influences within both groups.

It's definitely Afro-Latinos. African Americans are the furthest removed from African culture than any other country in the diaspora.

I've mentioned before that the difference when it comes to African influences can come down to which Europeans Africans were enslaved under. Africans enslaved under catholic slave masters could disquise their African religion using the saints. Africans enslaved under protestant slave masters couldn't do this. Also it seems like Spanish,Portuguese and French slave masters were more tolerant of their slaves African culture compared to English slave masters.

Even though Africans enslaved under catholic slave holders could preserve more African culture the experience of being enslaved under protestants did produce some unique things for black-Americans. The gospel singing style and oratory skills of black baptist preachers have been very influential in American culture. Name a famous black-American singer that didn't grow up singing in a baptist church? These singers are considered some of the best singers around.

Afro Latinos

However, Black Americans inherited the phenotype. It's ironic being that Afro Latinos have greater African cultural affinities while they are less African genetically.

When looking for African influences among Black-Americans you have to look a little deeper. There are many things about Black-Americans that have African sensibilities. Look at music. Styles like Jazz,Gospel style sining,Soul,Funk and hip hop beats come from a people with African sensibilities. The type of funk music that James Brown created could only have come from an African descendant person.

Why are Black-Americans known for being good dancers? That comes from Africa. Why are Black-Americans known for being good athletes especially in sports requiring speed and quickness? That's African genetics. Why is improvasation a known cultural trait among Black-Americans? That comes from Africa also. So African influences can be found with Black-Americans you just have to look a little deeper for them.

Afro Cuban music is attributed to the percussion section of Funk music.

I meant Funk music was influenced by Afro Cuban music. The Congo Drums were an integral part of Funk music 's percussion.
