I used Panama for an example as I was personally surprised that these items were more expensive there even though they have so much merchandise passing through the country through the canal. Is does not cost that much more to ship something to the Caribbean then to Canada or the USA so why do people that typically earn less have to pay more for something. These places are not that far apart or that much more difficult to get to. We have remote parts of Canada where things are very expensive because no one wants to deliver there. In that case I can understand why things cost more. I guess as a Canadian that cost difference issue is a sore note as many items sold here in stores have the price in Canadian and USA on them and for a long time we where just getting charge more regardless of exchange rate just because so people starting saying to heck with this I live near the boarder I am going to driver over and get it for cheaper. The differences in prices for things less then a 2 hour drive away where insanely different and most of us realized we were getting cheated. Just in case you were wondering I do know Florida in the USA is not an Island either !

Ok, are you sure Florida is not an island? Things cost more in these countries because they are made for a certain type of people, whereas in the USA, anyone can buy those items. Prices go up here because that merchandise is supposed to be of high quality or luxury brands, therefore, they make money out of stupid people who like to wear a tablecloth as long as it has a name brand in it.
