Finding a place to rent in Uruguay (cheap, cons, time)

My wife and I are considering spending an extended period of time in Uruguay, specifically Punta del Este.

Is anyone familiar with finding a place to rent? Not looking for a 1500/month vacation spot.

Now that summer is gone it must be easy.
Do you realize that PDL is just a 10 thousand hab. village out of season? In the mouth of Plata River?
Negative temperatures are not uncommom either.

Didn't realize Punta del Este was almost non existent in the winter. Also, the prices of rent make San Francisco look cheap. There's absolutely no way that's going to happen. Maybe we will make a weekend visit..

Looks like Buenos Aires is much more reasonable. We need a more year round city.
