Definitely the human element is what gives Lima a notch above Bogota as far as my preferences go.

Another plus, although this is much more personal, is that limeñas tend to find me handsome at a much higher rate than rolas (people from Bogota are known as rolos), so nights out on the town are always much more fun in Lima than in Bogota. Not only nights out, also just wondering around checking places out almost always leads to meeting interesting interesting women in Lima from all walks of life. In Bogota, while its not terrible hard, gives me a harder time. I would like to think that doesn't color my opinion of these cities, but I'm sure it does. lol

I also notice this lets call it fascination they have towards me here in the USA, at least with Peruvians in general and Limeñas in particular. I never meet Colombians from Bogota in this country, most Colombians I meet are either from Antioquia (especially Medellin) or from Cali; so I can't comment if Bogota people that move to other countries are like most of the ones to be met in Bogota itself.

This is common of almost every region in Colombia aside from Bogota, although not unheard of, bogotanos do tend to be more distant than people from the rest of the country.

This in my view however, is precisely its edge. it's not your typical Latin city and being from London I can appreciate the gritty, punk, anti-establishment yet classical vibe.

Bogota is definitely not everyone's cup of tea especially when people are looking for a stereotypical Latin experience. Don't get me wrong there's plenty of Latin flavour, just with a more punk/urban demeanour. The gig and community sports culture are musts to watch out for!

More frequent and largest road closures for community sports of any city in the world.

Lol same here, I get so much attention from the girls in Perú. Maybe not in the touristy parts, but in Lima or Ica or other non-touristy cities its insane. Using Tinder in Perú feels like being a kid at a candystore lol. I think Colombia outside of Bogota is the same way. In other parts of Latin America its much different, for example in Buenos Aires or Montevideo its useless. Its actually much easier to meet girls in Northeast US than in Buenos Aires imo

I guess. I prefer the more traditional Latin vibe where you become best pals with someone after a day. If I want to meet cold unwelcoming people I could just travel to Northern Europe lol. The fact that South American people in general are really friendly is a huge draw, and its what attracts me to the continent. Especially being a backpacker

That is interesting to hear about Lima. Good to hear
That their are friendly locals and good food/nightlife. I certainly will visit Lima at some point, but it'll probably be like a 2-3ish day visit on the front or back end of a trip to places like Iquitos/Cusco/Machu Picchu/Amazon.

The women part is certainly highly appealing for a single me but I'm happily married lol.

You can travel under 2 hours and find that in the middle of a tropical savannah. That's the great thing about Colombia. One moment you can be somewhere that resembles the tropical plains of Tanzania in the height of summer, the next in what feels like the Scottish highlands in autumn in less than a couple of hours.

Also I've had many "new best pal" moments from London to Bogota to Chicago. These are big, vibrant cities and the whole unfriendly people is overplayed. However, you're also not tied to the monotony of 'Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton, sometimes electrónica (rock if you're lucky)' nights which you find in most Latin cities. The amount of rock, afrobeat, alternative, jazz/swing, tango, ska & reggae venues/festivals in Bogota give the city variety. These sub-cultures are born out of independentness, a necessity to break from the mould (ylu mind your business, I'll mind mine) mindset. Fleating friendships are fun but not the be all and end all, that's why I have a lot of time for Bogota Vs other Colombian and LatAm cities, despite its obvious drawbacks.

Re Being friendly....

The friendliest people I know anywhere... yes I said ANYWHERE tend to be people that have nothing to lose and lots to gain from being friendly.

Ex That broke ass losers hanging around the street corner 24/7 are always going to be frienly because they have nothing else to do.

People that actually have things to do are not usually that friendly.

So in short people that are running up to you to talk ( that sort of friendly) they are usually either very bored OR they are looking to make a contact or a hitch a ride out of their situation.

I confess outside of a forced situations like work or school. I am not usually rushing up to talk to people unless there is a motive or I am painfully bored.

I was watching 90 day fiance ( LOL I love that show) and it always kills me how delusional some people are.

Please noted I am not talking about freindly in the context of you are a tourist approach someone local to ask them a question. I am talking about local people that just seems to be going to the moon and back to make contact with you and try to rush in to be your BFF before you even open your mouth.

I question if women just use their brains more about these things where as men sort of expect to be buying stuff for people.

For example I have had various situations when travelling where local guys have been frequently approaching me ... but as a women I am sure as hell not paying for some guy I just met that wants to tag along with me. I guess as a man the expectations or what is deemed normal is different.

If a man I don't know asked me to buy him a drink he better be homeless or that is just not cool.

Women for some reason get a way with pulling stuff like that a lot more.

A women would take that as a red flag.

A lot of men would be too stupid to realized they are being used and just brush it off as a tradition type of expectation. Good mannered women are taught that you should not ASK men/people for things and wait for it to be offered. You know what kind of person you are dealing with if they straight out ask you to buy them something.

I can't take your critque seriously because you ALWAYS complain about stuff I write !

As I walked through the down town core today further examples of this continued.

Please note I had by head phones on and was listening to music on my iphone and in my other phone I was following directions of how to get somewhere. So unless someone has brain damange the 2 phones in my hand would suggest I was busy.

Regardless I was stopped several times.
1. Twice people asking for money.
2. Twice by people trying to get be to sponsor a cause.
3. Once by someone trying to convert me.

I guess if I was sitting in a park feeding the birds it would be an entirely differnt story.... but I was totally not.

I keep on forgetting I am only allowed to share positive thoughts on this forum.

I retract my comments .... !
