What do you make of U.S congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez visiting leaders in Latin America? Is she going for good or not so good reasons?

I see her visit is being viewed a certain way by some.

Here's that Wall Street Journal article.

AOC’s Socialist Sympathy Tour

One goal of her South American trip was to learn how to succeed in censorship.

The problem as I see it is that Latin America has had bad leadership claiming both sides. Both leftist leaders and those on the right have had issues with corruption and brutality. In other words both Pinochet and Fidel Castro were oppressive. If AOC wants to highlight bad leaders on the right who were U.S backed then she would have to highlight bad leaders on the left who were Soviet backed.

A few years ago someone asked me what I think of her. My thoughts then are still the same today. It doesn't take long after hearing her speak to become obvious she received an education with a socialist slant. Nothing wrong with that, but it is what it is. This also doesn't mean that if you don't agree with the socialist slant of many things she says, that on a personal level she is a mean person. She could be, and most likely is, a very fun person to be around. Just don't talk to her about politics and/or social issues.

I don't think these visits are of a good or bad intentions, she is simply being who she is. While not aggreeing with much of what she says (or better yet, how she see some things, the slant does wonders to people), she does gives off a vibe of truly wanting to improve the lives of people, particularly those she consider are victims of injustice and she is brave about it. For that she gets my respect, but lets not push it to the slanted parts. lol

Whatever she does is never to do harm, but to learn and improve herself and others. Don't lose sight of that.

^^

I thought that was funny about young people thinking of socialism as being like "social media". Is there something to that?

Well, like that Brazilian rock band famously said, "Fidel e Pinochet tiram sarro de você que não faz nada"...

I am certainly no fan of hers but robust debate with people with diverse thoughts always leads to a better outcome. AOC now knows this. She didnt always know this.

And yes I do think that her heart is in the right place, even if a bit misguided at times.

Problem is that GenZs and younger Millennials came of age at a time of crisis in capitalism. They are quite correct in rejecting the notion of privatized gains and socialized losses. When someone takes a risk and loses they shouldnt be bailed out just because they are wealthy.
