This is what I am wondering about. It seems like with the military, the oil, the mining there is a lot of transient people in/around Anchorage.

Im just curious if this will last.
Big oil flounced out of the state courtesy of Sarah Palin's ACES program. They fled to North Dakota.

Mining is here to stay. Most of the mineral rights are owned by not only out of state interests but out of country interests. Canada owns a lot of our mineral rights and strangely enough, so does a company with the initials of BP (a bit of trivia...Princess/Carnival cruise lines can be traced back to that same company).

Thanks for that link Marty.

Lots of good info there.

Looks like Matsu area has really seen a lot of growth over the last decade.

I was also speaking to a few people in Anchorage and they were saying there just isnt anywhere to grow anymore in terms of land. So I guess going north where there is build-able land makes sense.

There have been many new shopping developments in Anchorage in the last few years, including a new mall.

Does Anchorage have any big-city buildings to live in? Like condos and skyscrapers? Or those aren't too popular due to the earthquake regulations?

Do y'all see downtown Anchorage building up? I really want to visit Alaska and see how it is. Such a beautiful state.

They build the taller ones so that they can withstand an earthquake, on rollers, like the ones in Tokyo.
