Hi all! My family is getting ready to move to Anchorage in early July. We have never been there, but have heard wonderful things about the place and the people.
I have been looking at different houses and areas and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the schools around the area where Northern Lights meets Muldoon road. I think that is the general area we would like to live (since it's close to the base.)
Thanks in advance for any help!!

I am also getting ready to move to Anchorage! Will be there the end of this week on a recon mission. Best of luck to us all lol. I am looking for a small apartment myself, is just me and my Beagle so we do not need much. Something close to downtown as I will be flying in and not have a car for awhile if at all. Hoping public transportation will fit the bill for me so I can just skip a vehicle.

We live close to that area. We are actually on the West side of the Muldoon/Tudor curve. In an area known as Scenic Foothills, right near the Scenic Park Elementary school. For us, it's really a great neighborhood because the homes are decent price, large, larger yards, and very quiet and off the busy roads so you often see kids playing in the street.
Safeway/Carrs is just around the corner, so is the post office (but I'll tell you that the post office inside Ace Hardware is better and faster!) and Bus 75 comes right through here and goes all the way through town and/or makes transfers to most other bus routes. Base is about 7 minutes from my house, we go there often too. I don't know much about the elementary school but I do know it's got a lot of parent involvement and they teach Japanese! Middle school kids in this area go to Begich which is brand new and you see a lot of kids playing on the grounds all year 'round. My oldest 2 go to Bartlett High School, which is where most of the Air Force kids go as well as the kids from the far East Side. My kids seem to like it fine. We are no longer active duty but we travel a lot still so my kids are used to moving around a lot and always being the New Kid. I think Bartlett is a decent school. Could be worse!
I think the Army kids are sent to Chugach? I could be wrong since we are no longer military.
East side gets a pretty bad rap sometimes but it's really not that bad. We have a lot of police and other "security" type people that live right in my neighborhood so there is virtually no crime here. I have been here for 3 years now and have not heard of one bad thing happening (crime related)
It's pretty easy to get to the other parts of town with Northern Lights, Tudor and the highway right there.
Decent places to eat close by too, parks, lakes, rives for fishing, trails for hiking....

Oh and a $3 movie theater is just 3 blocks from my house!

I hope you like Alaska! Good Luck with your move.
