The 7150 mile journey is over. I ditched the idea of taking the '99 Subaru Legacy Wagon GT with the blown headgasket (getting it shipped to me after it is fixed) and instead sold my Harley and Honda and got a 2010 Subaru Outback. A day later we drove from Georgia, down to Florida, west to California, up to Washington, then through Canada onward to Alaska. The roads were empty for the most part on the Alaskan Highway , and very very icy. Thankfully we didn't have to contend with any crazy storms/blizzards, didn't have any mechanical issues, didn't need extra gas (18.5 gal tank + 26.4 mpg=worry free) and the people that we did meet were extremely nice. I have over a thousand photos/video files, none of them that good since all I had were P&S camera and Cell phone, but I don't think that any camera on the planet could capture exactly how awesome the views have been in real life. I spent $2518.40 on one card and spent maybe 250ish on another. We spent time at the Oklahoma City, Petrified Forest/Painted Desert, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas (just drove through), Santa Monica, Seattle. I got to meet some of my wife's family in California and Washington and got to introduce them to our little girl. Maybe after I retire I'll do it right by spending more time in more places, but overall it was a good trip.

Once we find a place to live (we are in a hotel in the meantime) the fun part begins...learning to be outdoorsy! Internet, don't fail me now!

Did you take I-40 to I-5? I have made the trip west on I-40 several times and went up I-5 to Oregon from California. Those Siskiyou Mountains in between Cali and Oregon were pretty awesome, I went through there during a snowstorm....and was driving a vehicle not known for being good in wintery conditions, but pulling a u-haul trailer. Let's just say I rediscovered religion going through there...silly me did not realize there was a mountain range in between the two states-my plan was to avoid areas that might have snow on the trip and it mostly worked except there and in Flagstaff.

Thanks folks! It was a battle since my wife and I were traveling with a 5 month old, but we made it! Yep, I-40 to I-5, western access route to Alaskan Highway. We also planned to avoid bad weather, which I think we did for the most part...but the worst accidents were at the Continental Divide down south where semi-trucks were literally flipped on their sides after a VERY light dusting of snow. That slightly worried me because I was behind this truck...if anyone can identify what the biggest problem with that guy flipping over would be feel free to speak up

Also, if anyone here is moving out of an epic place that would be perfect for a young couple with a 6 month old now is the perfect time to contact me.
