America's Favorite Cities 2011 - People - Stylish | Travel + Leisure

Its a pretty pathetic world we live in when folks can't appreciate fashionable attire like Carhartt, Mukluks, and fur lined Bomber Hats.

They must have not checked out Fairbanks at all. I'd say we'd beat Anchorage for unstylishness.....if that is how they are judging style. People in Anchorage dress nicely I think, by lower 48 standards.

Who cares? Shallow people worry about what other people are wearing. I seldom notice or judge a person on what styles of clothes they are wearing. What I notice and pay attention to are their eyes and body language.

It ain't easy looking stylish in -50 degree weather, and I really don't believe anyone gives two chits about style when it is that cold out.

...and if you go swimming (outside) during the summer in Fairbanks, you probably still have to wear insulated swim wear.

I remember taking my then fashionista in her own mind 12 y/o daughter to Fairbanks for the first time in 2000 or so and her first comment was "Dad, everyone here looks homeless."

I just gave you some rep points to give to your daughter.

When my son was around 4 yrs old we were walking hand-in-hand into the YMCA for his swimming lessons. Out of the blue he asked me; Dad, when are you going to start fossilizing?

Smartass. He lost his smoking privileges for a week after that.

4 year old - smoking privileges? Am I the only one that caught that?

Haha, at least in Fairbanks most people look like they've bathed recently. In some of the smaller towns you can't even say that much
