Most people want more police but aren't interested in becoming one...

Local businesses give a community unique character. Anyone looking to improve their community should consider starting a small side business.

Everywhere has problems. It is easy to point them out, much harder to come up with solutions and then *gasp* be a part of the solution...

You don't have to be on the police force to help, either. Not that you shouldn't be...but if you aren't, you can still help. Our community has a message board and a good chunk of the community is on it. We post crime issues, school issues, we do a cash mob for locally owned businesses, we post lots of other stuff, too. But the idea is that people are working together for the greater good.

Yep. The police cannot do it all without the help of the citizenry.

That sounds like a great community you got there JasonAndJulie. At least a very involved one or one that you can easily be involved with.

There are also community councils in every community in Anchorage for those not interested/cut out for law enforcement.

Where did you hear there would be another academy? They nearly just laid off the most recent class with Sullivan's proposed budget cuts (and a union unwilling to compromise), I'd think it a bit strange to hire on even additional LEOs if the city seemingly can't afford them?

I think Alaska n general should change the laws regarding drunkenness in public. That might cost more money up front but in the long run might help.

Be very careful with that one... they do that down here and several friends of mine have got nailed going from the bar to a cab... not going from the bar to their car, they don't own one, to drive, but a cab... sometimes the police take being "drunk in public" a little bit to far. Considering you have to go outside of the bar after drinking... Now you are drunk in public...

It's an "old" TX law that the police have just figured out they can enforce...
