If your plans are to go up there and "steal" them from your "former" employer... you had better hope you didn't sign a non compete clause, or anything that says "you won't steal our clients" - because along with the mess of moving, you may end up with a legal issue on your hands... and most businesses that deal with "easy to steal" clients have them... With you as a "former" employee, it won't be hard to figure out where they went. You won't fool anyone.

Let's not even mention - those clients are from AK and chose to do business outside AK... they know better than you what is available to them...

As a side note, you can get hired with an employer in AK, and most don't care where you are from, just if you are qualified to do the job - but chances are VERY good that will have to be in AK first. Most are not interested in the "relocation" game... Company "A" pays me to move there and I get a job that pays better with company "B" after getting there... or worse yet, you get there and decide you don't like it and move back to FL or where ever you came from.

A lot of people move there and decide they don't like it... Have you even been to AK before this "planned" move? FL and AK are about as different as two places in the U.S. can be...

Ask Dakster...
You seem a little judgmental with the legal issues and clients regard.

A. I did not have to sign a non-compete.

B. I am looking to relocate because this office is more than likely going to shut down before the end of the year. I'm hoping it lasts until September, one of my coworkers gives it about 3 months.

C. They are clients of the company I work for in a completely different capacity then what I would be offering them on my own.

hmmm you didn't say they were closing... sorry, but it happens... I lost a VERY good job because the owner decided he was going to sell, and have been playing "catch-up" ever since... But it still stands that they are dealing with out of state companies for a reason... I mean, why is an AK based company (like GCI) dealing with a company in FL for advertising?...

And you never answered the question if you have ever been to AK or not... Moving there in the beginning of winter from FL will be a bit of a shock for you... Assuming the company closes in Sept. and you move right after that happens...

I got asked "why" I wanted to move there... the difference is I've been there 5 times over the past 3 years (including during the winter) before I made the final decision to move there...

Asking someone if they have even been there before they move is not unreasonable...

Asking someone why an AK based company is going to an out of state company for something they should be able to get locally shouldn't be unreasonable - they must have a reason... and you have to admit, they could not have found a company further away seems a bit "strange"...

They are dealing with us because we're not an advertising agency, hence item (C). They're regular advertising agency is in fact in Anchorage and looking to hire. I'd prefer not saying more because I've already probably said too much. Just like I didn't say it in my initial post because its not really relevant, its not set in stone, and now it would be fairly easy for one of these companies to figure out where I work and know that we're in some trouble at the moment.

No I have never been to Alaska but I'm really not all that worried about things like that. Us humans are pretty good at adapting and I personally enjoy doing so and have done so multiple times in the past to places I've never once been to. At this point I'm either relocating to Anchorage or Minneapolis. Unless I find work elsewhere first. I'm definitely not staying in Orlando if I'm unemployed though.

Endersdrift, I wish you the best and it sounds like you got a Plan and are researching it. I am sure you will do fine wherever you end up.

As DC mentioned, if you pick AK, it is nothing like central Florida at all.... Probably a good thing. (at least it is for me) No matter how much you think you know about it, it will still be a shock when you get there. If you want to know more just DM me and I will explain.

It depends on what your final destination in southeast is. If you're going from Bellingham to Ketchikan it would be cheaper then ending in Juneau, etc.
