Hi folks. I am soon relocating to the Anchorage area and need some help! I currently am a CFO of a hospice in Georgia. I am desperate to stay in the Hospice arena and seems that Anchorage has one certified hospice (Providence). I have found Hospice of Anchorage is not a certified hospice, but seems to have a good base of patients. Can any of you tell me your personal dealings with either of these? From my research, Providence doesn't seem to be the place to work and I really don't want to work at a large hospital-based hospice. Thanks for all input in advance!

there are smaller hospices here, they were classified as "group homes" when I worked with the census but many were simply a 6 bedroom home with a couple registered nurses. Not sure how one would go about finding one of those though.

Thanks so much for the replies.

AKStafford - I did see that partner, it looks like a great place! Providence itself has a hospice component. I did talk to them, but they are strictly hospital oriented.

roadfamily6now - thanks for the information!

My hospice has an inpatient facility, and that is something that is very much needed everywhere! Providence doesn't seem to want to go in this direction yet. I should just open one up myself!

It just so happens I worked for Hospice of Anchorage a couple years ago, I was their only full time RN. That is a wonderful non-profit organization. They work closely with Providence Hospital, that has a few inpatient beds, another excellent organization. Unfortunately, there is sometimes a waiting list for the few services that are available. As far as HOA goes they are dedicated and diligently striving to inform both the public, private individuals and professionals regarding end of life care and its needs.
As far as HOA employment their funds are extremely limited due to funding by grants and donations only. They have limited staff who can only work five days a week with lower pay and minimal if any benefits. I didn't work for Providence as I don't care for the Catholic Charities practices regarding their nurses. Best Wishes!
