Good post AKStafford. I knew that the Valley was more diverse economically, but you came up with some concrete examples. You're right on about the rock and gravel resources out here---almost like a never ending resource with how much rock and gravel that the glaciers created over time.

That is a good point, I did not know they made plastics from scratch in the valley or other products, that is actually really cool. I did know about roteq, but I have heard that they don't pay nearly as well as say ASRC fab shop or Ch2 fab shop in anch but im not sure how true that is. I also knew about the farms but I am watching them be graveled over to put up housing complexes and turn trunk road into a freeway.

I guess what I should have said is the vast majority of the money in the valley is from oil and oil related things. While some of those places you listed sound really cool I don't think they account for even a dent in the over all GDP of the valley, again you could prove me wrong again and perhaps I might start putting in my resume out there. From my perspective these buisnesses are almost noveltys and not real industry and certainly don't pay 6 figure wages, you could prove me wrong though.

And yes anchorage is hugely service based, so much so its obnoxious, I mean the oil companies and the other established buisnesses makes sense to be there but I don't see the need for the huge amount of people here and thus the huge mark ups on real estate. I think a lot of it is from the military, if the military down sized to just the planes and those who were essential to maintaining and operating the planes you would see a lot change in anchorage.

I personally love the valley and grew up out there and would love to see the high wages out there like there are in anchorage, its the only reason I stay in anchorage is because there are no real jobs in the valley, most things are really low pay compared to anch so I tolerate anchorage. It is far from an ideal place to live.

I plan on starting a novelty business out in the valley some day but I could never do it without first making good money in anchorage to start up. You cant really work your way up in the valley because there is no money there. If that makes sense.

At least half of the space is set up as doctor or dental offices. I'm not sure who is lined up as tenants.
The space the cleared on Seldon by Teeland I'm not sure about. It looks like they just cleared the lot and built a pad.
I do cost estimating in the construction field, so I'm usually pretty aware of what is being built.
Seldon and Lakeview (Teeland) will be the new Salvation Army community resources center.
