Planning a trip up next summer. Going to fly up and just need a decent room that's not outrageously priced. I don't want anything slummy and don't need anything fancy. First time DH and I will be away from the kids on a big trip in several years. Would like it to be a good experience.

I see all kinds of rates out there but didn't know what was reasonable, during the summer. I also want something in a good area with close access to all the good stuff.

Could I get a few good hotel choices please? Thanks.

First, almost all hotels in Anchorage are outrageously priced in the summer. You might check into a B&B. The Copper Whale has good reviews: Anchorage Alaska Bed and Breakfast - The Copper Whale Inn
Trip Advisor for Alaska is also a good resource for doing research: Alaska Forum, Travel Discussion for Alaska, United States

Thanks so much. The Sheraton is $80 right now but $269 in July. I can't stay for 8 or 9 nights at that price. It's outrageous.

I wouldn't stay 8 or 9 nights in Anchorage, but instead would get out of town for lodging in various towns north or south.

Can you give me an idea of where you would go if it were your trip?

North: Denali National Park, Talkeetna, Hatcher Pass

South: Seward, Homer

At the most, 1 night Anchorage on arrival & 1 night Anchorage before departure

Motel 6 in Anchorage is pretty clean and about the lowest priced of the chain motels in the summer.

You could spend a night in Girdwood at the Alyeska Princess Lodge and ride the tram up the mountain? For sure at Lands End in Homer on the spit. Killer views there being right on the beach and pretty good food. Go to Chena Hot Springs outside Fairbanks and enjoy the hotsprings? They have rooms and good food too. You could spend a night in Seward and visit the Sealife Center and maybe take a glacier/wildlife cruise. Fox Island out of Seward has cabins for the night, in training chef's and is part of a glacier cruise package.

You only live once. Hit the highway and see some things. Don't waste your trip to Alaska running around Anchorage the entire time!

I shared the link in my earlier post, but I'll share it again. For planning a visitation to Alaska, there's no better resource than the forums for Alaska on Trip Advisor. You can read other people's trip reports, ask questions and get suggested itineraries.
Oh, and just to warn you: be prepared for sticker shock. Living in Alaska is not cheap, visiting Alaska is not cheap. You might be better off renting an RV if you feel comfortable driving one.
But again, do some research on Trip Advisor. You'll be extremely happy you did.
