You'll have no problems with that. Just make sure the maintance is up-to-date. If it needs new tires get them while you're still down south. Thousands of people drive Subarus up the Alcan every year in winter, spring, summer and fall.

You can cross at Sweetgrass, MT and head north through Calgary and Edmonton Alberta. Head west on Highway 43 up to Grand Prairie and then cross into BC. Then it's one road up to Alaska. Don't bother going to Seattle, why cross the Rockies three times to come up when you can cross them once?

Go and do an oil change or change out a spark plug. Then, ask yourself, was that easy?

Oh, make sure you're wearing a glove when you do this.

Anybody can do a spark plug change. Do this in Boxer engine, then do this with gloves on. Or not. Just be completely shirt and shorts and try to do this. If you can, then can do an oil change, then go.

Just to update everyone, he drove from Va over to CO and then up toward WA, through Canada and took a ferry from Prince Rupert to...?! Cannot remember where he landed and then kept driving. He did it in 9 days. The ferry only ran once a week, I think. It cost about $500-600 for the ferry, with him and the car.
The AlCan had been closed days before he got there, so we were thankful it was open.

He did not put the warmers on the car because of time, though we meant to. The car did well and so did he. He had plenty of warm clothes, blankets, MREs and is an Eagle Scout, so he knows what he is doing... Just so you are aware, he did not foolishly set out without having the know-how!!
