You will do fine in Alaska, and will probably find a good job for your self. You seem to have the correct attitude for here.

Thanks. I don't want to be one those former lower 48 types that Alaskans end up scoffing at.

Put in a fair amount of research before we ever made the move.

Generally speaking, I've been about a zillion times happier since arriving in this great state

We've been making appropriate arrangements for the car and whatnot to ensure we're ready when the snow comes, although from the reading I've done and what other Alaskans have said, this winter is supposed to be as crappy as last winter was.

I certainly remain hopeful the predictions are wrong lol

Predictions don't work for Alaska weather! RainX on the windshield makes for better vision in the rain.

I see in the Sunday paper that there is an annual job fair scheduled for 9/16/ 10am-4:30pm in the UAA's Alaska Airlines Center, in case you are interested. Lots of info about it in Sunday ADN.

You need to take out the ts in your name and add a y.

Nurses work three 12 hour shifts a week...if they want a bunch of OT they work 4. That's pretty easy living if you ask me.

Too simplistic.

Nurses' schedules can run the gamut.

For example, my first nursing job in the ER was 7 tens followed by 7 off. I worked 9p-7a for a week straight.

You might think having those 7 days off are like a mini vacation, but they weren't because I'd spend about the first 3-4 days just recovering from the 7 on. By the time I really got to enjoying my days off, it was time to go back.

three 12s back to back is also very hard.

Now when I was younger, I put in crazy hours as a med student....hundred hour workweeks were the norm during the third year of med school.

I could never do that crap now lol
