Glitch--

Thanks very much for the map. That helps a lot.

To all--

Thanks so much for spending the time advising those of us looking into relocating to your home state. This forum has been among the most helpful tools I've seen to find information, both for facts about Alaska and Alaskan attitudes and opinions.

I'm headed up to Anchorage this week, in fact, for a job interview on my spring break. It will be interesting to see the reality.

Could someone comment on the need for lots of cash on hand for the move, though? Having moved several times myself, I'm not sure I see why $10,000 (one figure quoted earlier) would be necessary--unless there are hidden costs in moving to Alaska besides the housing and food costs so thoroughly discussed in this forum.

Thanks again.

Tim

Default $$$

One does need ready-access cash for 1st & last month rent /deposit- some places will not take a personal check.

I know people who have moved here with a whole, WHOLE lot less than $10K.

Best of luck with job interviews, Tim.

On the 10K for moving--depends on what you are including. If you are looking at having a moving company move your stuff up here, then 10K mat be appropriate. What feild are you looking for work in?

While eagle river is separated from the main part of anchorage by the military reservation it is still in the municipality of anchorage it is a great place to live with only a short commute to town. Im predjijuiced because i lived there from 1970 to 2004 and built two houses there while working in anchorage. The area in the area between eagle river road and the loop road is mainly older houses [1960s] and the rest is mostly newer.

Yes, Anchorage, or the Municipality of Anchorage is the largest city in the USA, geographicaly speaking. It extends from Girdwood to Eklutna.

About the area of you homes you are refering to, most or many of them were built during the 70's actualy. I live in one of them, have been for the last 17 years.
