From downtown, head south on L Street, which turns into Minnesota Drive. Anything to the west should be all right. The further south you go, the newer most houses will be. But anything in the downtown area will be expensive.

Anchorage - where to live...
- Don't feel the need to have an apartment downtown (unless you really like the area). Try and find a short term rental for a few months until you get to know the city.
- I live in east Anchorage (near Tudor & Boniface) and love the area due to the nearness of outdoor activities.
- use Google Earth to see what areas look like
- as a sample, here's a link to just one apartment complex near my part of town: https://www.weidner.com/anchorage/th...ate/07-19-2017

Car...
- If you plan on buying a new car, consider buying it 'outside' and driving it to AK. Cars can be more expensive up here. -
- Unless your current car is old (ready to 'go away') it is likely ok for up here.
- there are all types of cars up here, and if they are cared for properly, they all do well.
