Have any of the well users in Anchorage experienced issues such as hardness, staining of clothes and dishes, odors, corsion in pipes, etc? If so, what have you done to overcome these issues and how effective have the techniques been? I remember using a well as a child many years ago and experiencing many of these problems, but suspect that there have been advancements in techonology that address many of these problems. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Yes, many well owners up on the Hillside, myself included, have had their wells tested. Talking to the lab technician, its pretty clear that high hardness and high iron are the main problems on up the Hillside (though this varies greatly due to specific location, with high arsenic sometimes a concern as well). This results in all of the negative effects you described. The only real solution (other than to live with it and watch all of your plumbing and appliances rot away) is to install a full on water treatment system. When you get here, just contact these guys and they will take care of everything:

Alaska Pure Water is Anchorage's leading resource for all your water needs. Bottled water, cabin wat

We installed a Kinetico whole house water softener system and a reverse osmosis sytem for drinking water. Kinetico makes very high quality stuff. The downside of course is that the entire system is rather pricey, but the upside is that we now probably have some of the best water in the state!

Your comments are typical. Most users love their system. It should last you for decades.

We have a whole house water filter/softener, I don't know what type. We have never had any problems with our water, or pipes, and it is the best tasting water I've ever had. This is in Eagle River.
