Foxy Grandma, what are you looking to do while you're here? That will determine whether you should come now or wait till next year. If you're just going to stay inside and visit, now is a good time. If you want to get out and sight see, you might want to wait. The tourist season will be pretty much over by then. You can expect snow anytime after mid October.

totally agree!!

there are so many crappy areas of town that you cannot just avoid the sections like Muldoon or Mountain view and Midtown. You really have to live here and do lots of looking in person.

We found a little gem of a neighborhood here near Muldoon but it is great. We have lived here for a year (our 1 year anniversary was yesterday!) and adore this neighborhood. Very quite and very safe.

I recommend East Anchorage. It is the most populated area and the most ethnically diverse area in the city. Eastbrook is a great upper middle-class neighborhood.

If you drive appropriately for the road conditions I don't see why you couldn't visit any time of the year.
