That is a pretty subjective question.
If you live on the west side of town and get on West bound 1-94 from Jackson or Zeeb or M-14 you are going against the grain of most commuting which is in your favor... assuming a day job.
From the east side you will suffer from back ups of people commuting in from the east.
By way of full disclosure I have lived in Ann Arbor for about 34 years but have not done that commute.

I tossed the question to my Facebook peeps. A few of them have made the commute. They pretty much confirm my assumption.

another nice thing about that east/west commute is the sun will always be behind you......again most of my point assume a day job. To Jackson in the morning, back to Ann Arbor in the afternoon/evening.

Anyone else who does this (or similar commute) on a daily basis? I may be considering a job in Jackson, commuting from A2. Would be happy to hear their thoughts.

Any commute that involves driving on I-94 or US-23 is a huge pain.

30 minute commute going against the majority of traffic. Maybe longer depending on your exact termination points

The bad part is there are two treacherous curves on I-94 in the Grass Lake area that are always the scene of serious (read as fatal) traffic accidents during bad weather that back things up for hours.

I know this thread has been kicking around for a while but will chime in. In my first year of teaching, I commuted from A2 (near Huron Pkwy/Washtenaw) to the east side of Jackson.

Most of the time it took about 40 minutes door to door, and a couple of times I met some icy drives home. But the most memorable time was the morning a milk tanker truck overturned and spilled on WB 94, near Baker Rd. The backup was notable, or course. But the surprise? When the weather warmed up and the spilled milk that had soaked into the ground soured. Just imagine.....
