I live in a large complex where the playground is the centerpiece. I work all day and when I get home at 730-ish, there are always at 10 kids running around, yelling and screaming. I don't mind the yelling so much as the screaming. To keep my sanity, I have to wear headphones over earplugs and put a movie or video on as background noise just to drown out their screams. Which, by the way, only has a 30% success rate. It's affecting me emotionally, mentally and physically.

I've spoken to the office about this 3 times now. This last time I was told they would speak to the kids' parents, and I requested that security be sent out to patrol earlier than usual.

Since then, nothing has really changed and I've been having to listen to the noise passed 10pm.

I need some advice.

Oh gosh, that's unfortunate. Can you move to another unit farther away from the playground? (Are you in a daylight 'savings' location? You might guess, I don't like DST.) Hubby and I 'love' the sound of kids 'screaming' and playing - it reminds us of youth and life, and fun times of youth. However, ours are not for 3-hours at a time! Good luck Marie - hope you can resolve. But I don't imagine playground + 'library voice' goes together too well, unfortunately.

No DST here. I suppose I do have the option to ask for another unit, if they even have one, but that's my last resort- Even the thought of having to move again stresses me out, but I guess if push comes to shove.
I know that kids will be kids and I don't expect Library voices, though I wish that were the case. The noise I'm talking about belongs at a park playground, not an apartment complex playground.
On the weekends, it's worse because there's always some get-together going on where 20+ kids are running around right about outside my windows until 10 pm.

Something has to give and I don't know what else to do, besides ask for another unit, which I don't want to do yet.

Try earbuds instead of headphones.

Assuming you are in Arizona, hopefully with the summer heat ahead there will be fewer screamers outside in the evenings. I'm in a house now and a few years back I had some incredibly loud, angry neighbors (louder than any I'd encountered in an apartment complex) and I actually welcomed summer that year, because once the windows were closed and the A/C and fans were on it drowned out all their fighting.

I lived in apartments for many years and the one I stayed in longest was very near a main road--I ran the fan year round which provided white noise that I grew accustomed to and it drowned out the traffic. If nothing gets better I'd move to another unit. I know that is a royal pain but it isn't worth staying where you are if it is going to affect your physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Good luck.

My guess is the playground was there BEFORE you rented your apartment... Did you think it was not going to be used? Suck it up or move. You knew what was there when you moved in.
