Hello,
My family plans on moving from Michigan to Arizona within the next three years. I have two children who will be elementary school age during the move. We collectively dislike the endless months of rain/snow and cold. I am needing advice on where to start looking for a community to invest in. I have a healthcare administration degree, my husband criminal justice. Wanting a community that is near a larger city for more opportunities for the kids to join sports and various other outdoor activities. In Michigan we live in a community around a lot of small lakes so hoping for something within a short distance to water but still with a decent mountain view. Any advice for my family?

You need to put your feet on the pavement here, get a feel for the areas and then decide. You have three years so that is plenty of time. I would suggest visiting in July or August. If you can bear the heat then you'll be ok the rest of the year. Good luck.

Yes that is the best advice..Just need a starting point. Only have three days to visit not enough time to cover the entire state

We have very helpful posters in this forum. You will need to be more specific as to budget?, public or private schools? What climate are you looking for? Summers are sizzling where I live, but are cooler in the higher elevations. You also need to decide how long of a commute you are willing to drive for wirk? Three days will not give you much time at all. This is a big state and most of us are around the greater Phoenix area because that's where the jobs are.

City-Data has information on every city and town in Arizona. I used that as a basis for where I wanted to search when I reached Arizona

Also, go on indeed.com and check out opportunities in your field. Put in Phoenix, AZ for jobs in the Phoenix metro area. You can also use glassdoor.com for salary info and job satisfaction information.

Welcome, I suggest reading many of the back threads here. There is a wealth of information to be found that will give you better specifics of questions you may have. AZ runs from insane heat to nearly 13,000 foot mountains. Giant cities to as rural as it gets in the Continental US. Cactus to the largest Ponderosa Pine forest in the world.

I suggest multiple visits in different seasons. Especially August. Trust us, it ain't a "dry heat" in August. But if you enjoy August you'll love the rest of the year.

And my good friend "Observer" should be happy with my post now.

Do yourself a favor and choose PHX and it's outlying areas or Vegas and it's outlying areas. Everywhere else is too remote or too high an elevation. Sure July and August are real hot but unless you want to move to San Diego you have no choice.

I appreciate all the advice, Ive been doing my research the past few months on the Tucson (oro valley area) but thats above my price range. Sahuarita for the school system, searching Sierra Vista seems remote. There is little diversity here. Excited to be able to experience that. Chandler seems nice but it is also above price point. Around here 50,000 to 75,000 gets you a nice house 3-4 bedroom 2 bathroom etc. It seems it takes 125,000 minimum. That here gets you a lake house, granite counters, and more upgrades than you need/ want.

You are not going to find something in that price point that gives you the other things you want. Good schools and lots of good organized sports and recreation for kids, and 50-75,000 houses don't occur in the same places in AZ.
