Should AZ separate into two states? Northern AZ and South AZ.

The Phoenix and Tucson megalopolis really has no connection to the rest of the state other than to clog the roads on snowy weekends. There is like 6 million of them, to 1 million of the rest of us in rural AZ. Like much of the country the politics and stance of the rural areas conflicts with the liberal mindset in the cities. But Phoenix runs everything and sucks up most of our money.

Plus South AZ could either rejoin Mexico or become part of California, since most of the people there are from one of the two places, or both.

I think it would be a win-win. Who's with me?

No way cause that would make Mexico stronger.

Nice troll jamies, but interestingly you may have laid out some kind of future scenario 20 to 30 years out under some not so good but not improbable circumstances...

If the US splits, AZ is too small to remain on it's own, and would probably be broken up along those lines...

Actually, Flagstaff is probably the most liberal city in the state, and the Phoenix metro area has plenty of conservative suburbs. The political divide isn't as clear cut as you think. Only far southern Arizona (Tucson and Nogales) is consistently liberal.

Why not just separate the city of Phoenix and Tempe into its own county (Phoenix county). Scottsdale, Mesa, Gilbert, Queen Creek can become East Valley county. Glendale, Peoria, Sun City, Sun City West and Surprise become Glendale county or West Valley county.

There have been such proposals in the past for the East Valley to become its own county, although I don't think any of them included Scottsdale. The early 1990s proposal included Mesa (county seat), Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Tempe, and Guadalupe, while the early 2000s proposal included the same cities minus Tempe and Guadalupe. I agree that Tempe probably would not want to be included in a separate East Valley county, since it would be a weak link in a conservative dominated county.

However, I have never heard any similar proposals for the West Valley.
