Yes I would like to know whereabouts you were target shooting. Though I am going to join a range and shoot mostly there.
Shooting by myself in the wild desert creeps me out a bit, and an encounter like OP had is sort of one of them.

I'd run into BLM Rangers in California located BLM land. They were nice enough though, which is more than you'd expect given the really strange people you know see out in BLM land, emptying AK47 mags into pumpkins like 30 feet away. I'd hate their job, coming up to encounter any random person armed to the teeth, all dressed up like SEAL wannabees.

I was at Table Mesa. There is a sign there that clearly states it is an area for recreational shooting. And lol, I didnt even know we had rangers in AZ. I thought of them being on horses too for some reason.

Well now that I read up on these Rangers, if I have an encounter, I won't provide anything to them, other than a reply to call in a sworn officer to talk to me, if they want.

That being said, why would they be on BLM land... that's Federal lands. But I am not a lawyer, so.

UPDATE! The side of the truck said ranger, but I spoke with a friend of mine (LEO) and he stated that federal BLM employees have trucks that say ranger on the side, and wear either tan or green uniforms. So this encounter was legitimate and I am still awaiting my invitation to court via mail.

Most of Arizona, including National Forest, BLM and State Trust land are currently under Stage 1 fire restrictions. Target shooting is not allowed.

Your encounter was with a Federal LEO, not an Arizona Ranger. Your summons will be to federal court. The Arizona Rangers are largely a ceremonial organization which pretty much anyone can join. They do wear cowboy hats and they do ride horses.

That sounds about right. I believe there were BLM officers in a remote place in Nevada about five years ago who had the words Ranger on their trucks too. Though, they were probably more heavily armed than the one you ran across.

That was my thought as well. Not familiar with that exact area, but fire restrictions are very common right now

If you were a writer it might be an idea for the beginning of a new book?
