I'm almost positive that here in Florida, you have to have a FL DL to have florida insurance....because I will have just gotten my new tags when I plan to move this summer and just don't want to have to deal with either switching insurance, tags, DLS....with moving & everything, I don't want to be rushed...

I’m not sure about the driver license having to be changed however when you become a resident of Arizona you are required to have the vehicle registered in the state. You’re considered a resident if: you have a child going to school in the state, if you are employed and working here, if you own property and live here for more then six months. And it’s important that the vehicle be registered for the county that you are living in. There are people who register their cars in cities outside of the city to reduce their insurance rates, I don’t know what will happen if they are in an accident and put in a claim for damages. I would think that the insurance company could deny paying on the claim based on false information provided when initially taking out the policy.

I’m not speaking here as an attorney nor am I speaking as an authority on insurance, but I have heard about this type of problem with details that cause the insured problems down the road and they are left holding the bag. I know that the “state” wants their money for the vehicle license taxes but I can’t remember about the city or county tax?

You can get insurance without having an AZ license. Just tell the agent that you are a snowbird and only reside in Arizona for about 6 months out of the year. There are a lot of snowbirds that come here and do exactly that. The keep their Colorado/Minnesota/Washington or whatever state license and registration, but a lot of times have insurance through Arizona. However, I have heard that insurance can be slightly higher in AZ depending on where you are at.

Get an AZ license, it's a good deal. It comes at a higher cost, but it is valid until you turn 65, no more tests, no more pictures, no more fees. You get to keep that youthful mug shot until you collect social security.

Speaking of cars, does the heat in Arizona take a real toll on the paint of your car/truck? If so, do you guys do anything to protect it?

Wow! That's a long time! Well, I already do have two children going to school in the state of AZ...I just don't happen to be there yet....I think if the vehicle is registered in AZ...then the rest of the whole license, insurance thing should follow...kind of goes along with the whole process I think...I also want to be able to go back to school at resident rates after a year of living in AZ....
