I'm from Jackson, Wy.. a tourist town. Summer is beautiful, plenty of fishing, hiking, backpacking, and nightlife. Yet Jackson still has a down home feel to it with all the local farmers and ranchers. Finding a job here is easier than finding a decent cup of coffee for under $5. I love this place, but summer only lasts about 3 months, and the rest of the time it's cold, and dark. (great place for skiing, by the way) I've had enough of the long, cold, dark winters, but I do not want to be completely out of the mountains. What I am looking for is a small to large town.. no huge cities.. to live for 6 months. Somewhere I can easily find a job (especially if the work is outside) affordable housing, and dog friendly. Oh yeah, with easy access to "the nature". I am not a hippie however so I guess sonoma (sorry about spelling) is out of the question? I'm 22 yrs old, and am social, but enjoy spending most of my time exploring the wilderness on my own, so a town with nightlife, and wilderness would be ideal!! my old dog and I will be traveling with minimal funds and a vehicle on its last legs, so knowing where i'm going would help immensely.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated, and sorry for the long "question". Just thought I might get a better answer if I put in a little extra detail.

Thanks for reading!
Katie

Default ..Forgot..

On top of everything else.. Somewhere with a decent climate in the winter.. which probably means a lower elevation, but as long as there is still some good terrain to explore.. and that said.. i can handle hot days and cold nights pretty easily.. just not 9 months of straight snow, and below freezing most days.

Try Safford...Right at the foot of Mt Graham with an elevation of 10,800 ft. Small town with a lot of outdoor stuff to do. Even a community college nearby.

Hi Katie, I think if your talking Arizona you meant Sedona not Sonoma. For the record we are not all Hippies here.

Sedona would meet some of your needs with lots of hospitality and service jobs but the cost of living is high. It is surrounded by the Coconino National Forest so there is a lot to do from an outdoors perspective.

Good Luck in your search.

Sounds like you want to live in Flagstaff. It is a college town with a lot of work and the college is a agriculture type of college with pleanty of students that are dog friendly.

The only problem is it has four season. Where the further south you go, the less seasons you will have.

Good luck!

We moved from Central California to Prescott Valley two years ago and my husband (raised in No Dakota) LOVES it here. I love it, too but miss my grandchildren and the grown kids I have left in CA. The winters get some snow (enough to be pretty) but it doesn't stay. If you like thunder and lightening this is the place for you-the monsoon season is wonderful! The cool thing is there are so many places nearby to go to. You can hike or off road or whatever, but everything is close. Flagstaff, even though it is a college town and more rustic, gets way more snow in the winter and is more expensive than Prescott or Prescott Valley. This area, also has a down home feel. People are for the most part very friendly.
Good Luck to you.

Check out Bullhead City on the Colorado River Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce. Laughlin Nevada is on the other side of the river with many casinos with some nightlife. Jobs are probably available with the casinos/hotels on the NV side and there are probably jobs available in BHC. Winter is the main tourist season in this area - way too hot during the summer . Winter temps are often in the 70's.
