Both (well, all three, going back to the union article) were worth reading. The domino effect is in full force here, in all three stories.. one has to wonder where it will end up.

I remember getting several of those union hit pieces in the mail. They had to have spent a fortune. And for what, in the end?

I wish everyone affected by this well, and that includes the Basha family.

If anyone had any questions as to why we all need to help and keep Basha's going, this story should answer those questions!

Let me preface this by saying I’ve nothing against Basha’s per se. They are nice stores. However, while this story is warm and fuzzy and admirable, the bottom line is most of us do not have money to burn on the same national brands we can find elsewhere less expensive. It is what it is. When money is no object, then we can afford to be picky about whose store we choose to shop in.

True. We shouldn't go shop there and pay higher prices just because they are good people. They are going to have to make some significant adjustments in order to turn things around. If they can do that, and become more competitive, then I think keeping them in the marketplace against the non-local chains is important.

Quite frankly, Bashas' is very competitive price wise. We shop - a lot. We have done a lot of comparing of prices. And honestly - Bashas' is right in line with the other stores like Fry's, Albertsons, Safeway.

Oh I know - Bashas' is higher on that can of beans you like - Fry's has them cheaper. But, Bashas' is cheaper on the laundry detergent that you but and Albertsons is higher.

It is not a one item deal. Check it out.

One of the "things" with us is freshness of products - Bashas' seems to have more "fresh" items like dairy and produce. Milk for example tends to have a "pull" date 12 to 14 days from our purchase date while other stores might be 8 to 10 days. Stuff like this is important to us.

I'm concerned about money like everyone else but, I'm also concerned about trying to help a company that is GENUINELY interested in helping the local community - and when you look at what Bashas' and the Basha family do in our community - and that includes the entire state of Arizona, they are second to none and, IMO, deserve our support.

OK - I'm off my soap box.

No, they're not. As I said above, for years, at least in Tucson, Basha's has always been one of the top 3 most expensive grocery stores in the annual survey and more often than not it is first or second. Safeway and Albertson's are also expensive (no argument from me here) and offering nothing different than Fry's does for the most part.

Well, they do just that. Bashas' is the largest commercial support of the Food Banks in Arizona. Bashas' employees regularly volunteer their time to help the food banks and other similar groups.
