There's a story in today's Arizona Daily Star about a new desalination plant opening soon in Rocky Point, Mexico.

Drinking seawater in Puerto Peñasco | www.azstarnet.com ® (http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/225982 - broken link)

More than 600 beachfront homes in Puerto Peñasco will have drinkable tap water — from the sea — by the end of the year.
In a first-of-its-kind partnership in the Sonoran city also known as Rocky Point, the Las Conchas Home Owners Association has signed a contract with Mexico City-based Grupo Agua de Mexico to build and operate a desalination plant for the housing development.
Residents of the community, in the southern part of Puerto Peñasco, held a groundbreaking ceremony last week. Construction of the plant is expected to be completed this fall.

Residents will not incur any costs for the plant's construction but will pay a monthly fee for the water, she said.
The service will cost about $65 a month, plus usage charges, Steward said.

The last time we were in Puerto Peñasco the smell coming from the sewers was very bad. In fact the sewer covers near building entrances had been removed and large heavy plastic laid down and the cover replaced. We were told that this was done to keep the odor down. Knowing that they have such a bad sewage problem, we would not drink the water no matter where it came from!

As an aside, I saw a television advertisment last night - A fishing boat with nets - they pull up loads of bottled type water - they throw back the fish -

The ad was for General Electric and their desalination technology "for the future" -

I would not build a desalination plant that is powered by oil or gas energy. Most of our oil coming from frendly Arab countrys. Our government have a good relationship with the oil producing Arab muslim countries. But we dont know if the next government will continu the same kind of relationship. If for any reason the oil stop coming ,everything will change will be no gas for cars for transportation heating our homes prices will go up on everything will be long line ups just to buy a bread will be no jobs ,bankcropsies. The USA will have to become energy selfsufficient in a very very near future.

Note: We all have to remember this fact, the Arabian country's are not our friends. They are business partners with the US. Money is what talks with the Arabs. As soon as the oil and money run out, they will dissassociate themselves with us. Remember the Arabs are Muslims, and Muslims want to eventually destroy us and all that are not Muslim.

Projections have been done for 100 years into the future and there is no cause for concern for water in Nevada, AZ or CA.
