I'm not going to pretend there aren't tenants that aren't scum of the earth. Regardless it's a dishonorable occupation.

Well, then. Don't support it.
Don't rent from anyone.
I doubt they will miss you.

Check your privilege. You really think I wanted to rent instead of buying? Aren't we pretentious?

I rented for years.

Sure didn't want to, but understood where I was, and how I got where I was.

You are the one who claims to be supporting "a dishonorable occupation."

If you think it is such a dishonorable occupation, don't support them.

Most people would like to to start at the top of the social-economic ladder, but not many people do.

How else are you supposed to live without buying? There's no way you're living on your own and holding down a job if you're this ignorant.

If there were no landlords , where would renters live? Don’t say they would live in a house they bought. Some people never can get to that point.
Why is being a landlord dishonorable?
There is a need for housing and landlords fill that need.

You could live with someone. Maybe with your mom? Find a generous shack up to live with (sponge off of). You could get a tent and find a stand of trees to live in.

As for me, after about 18 years of renting, I was able to buy a house.

Of course, that meant a couple decades of paying a mortgage, and taxes, and insurance.
Then there was maintenance and repairs.

But you go ahead and call those who deal with such things, dishonorable.

BTW, No, I don't live on my own. I have a wife and about 20 grand kids.

The people in here who have decided to disparage landlords don't know what they are talking about.

It doesn't sound great:

https://arkansasag.gov/consumer-prot...tenant-rights/

I would be concerned about renting "as is", and in the end being blamed for damage that was there when I moved in, thus one would need to do a very careful inspection, maybe even employing a professional to do it, especially on a larger property with photos and every single little thing documented.

Well, I agree. But, over the years, I have rented in several states (and Italy) and it was the same everywhere.
