No, Nita, I'm saying that in lieu of the "free" health care benefits military famlies have been promised for years, I want the OPTION to purchase low-cost Medicare-style insurance for my family and I support whatver reforms are required to make that a viable possibility. It's strangely funny that you can't see how heavily on the public dole you are as a Medicare beneficiary tho.

Nobody is talking about all doctors coming under the employment of the government or about the government owning all hospitals, ala Britain's NHS. Nor is anyone talking about eliminating private insurance.

It reminds me of a story the president relayed in one of his town hall meetings recently....He received a letter from an lady stating, "I don't want socialism. I don't want government-run health care. And leave my Medicare alone, please."

and do you realize how many years we paid into medicare in order to get the benefits? If they want to give me back every single penny we paid with interest I would opt out. Do you realize we paid into the program since 1965 plus paying our share of whatever plan my husbands company offered. Add to that we are still paying medicare; every month, both of us contribute $100 not to mention our suplementary insurance.

Do you think if we get socialized medicine everyone in the country will be required to pay something like seniors do now? Of course not. What you are talking about is a low cost plan? I can probably go along with that, but totally government run health care, not on you life do I want to see that.

As with Social Security, I suspect most seniors get back a lot more than they paid in. Plus, if you were to opt out of Medicare (and I'm assuming you're of Medicare age), you can bet you'd be uninsured because I doubt you'd be able to find a private insurer who'd assume the risk without at least an astronomical premium.

I was obviously just pointing something out, we paid in for years, I very much resent being told I live on the government dole and I am also aware I can't opt out. I was giving an example: it someone wants to give us back every penny we have paid with interest great. Of course this is not going to happen.

My problem with government run health care lies is 2 places: 1-rationalizing which will happen and 2-people taking advantage of the system. Oh, I can go see a doctor even though I just have a little cold. I don't have to pay. BTW, I have known more than my share of people who do that now. A couple are single moms on medicaid and happens to be my own brother. No, he isn't on medicaid by anymeans but he has insurance that covers almost everything imaginable and he takes full advantage of it.
