I read in a news article, about how ambitious Chinese traders and businessmen are moving into parts of Siberia, and heavily influencing it. Chinese culture, food, and styles are growing in influence in Siberia. The population of Russia is steadily declining, due to alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, and millions of abortions. Siberian Russians are often lazy, apathetic, not ambitious. The Russian government is afraid that its influence is declining in parts of Siberia.
Also, along the Siberia - China border (frontier), you often see that the Chinese side is intensely planted/ cultivated, while by contrast the Siberian side is empty, unused land.
I doubt the Russian government will let go of Siberia by hook, line, and sinker!
