Sins of our fathers. Humans have a long memory and things like this are never forgotten. Japan is afraid of China's growing military because they know a debt has to be repaid. I'm not saying China is about to attack Japan but when things go bad, you can be sure China will look for opportunities to get revenge.

And this is not exclusive to China and Japan. The Jews who run Hollywood have been killing Nazis in movies as much as they can. Racial tension in the US? It's still all about slavery. And look at what happened to Yugoslavia after Communism fell. People started ethnically cleansing people that wronged them over a century ago. People should realize the seeds of hate you plant when you victimize another group lasts a very long time.

Two former Japanese colonies (Taiwan and South Korea) are now under American hegemony and much of the current structure in Asia is reminiscent of the interwar era.
The US protecting South Korea, per their treaty, is a FAR cry from the Japanese invading and enslaving them. You might want to ask Koreans what they think about the period that they were a Japanese colony, and if that is better or worse than their situation now.

Comfort women (sex slaves from across Asia/Pacific), testing chemical/biological weapons on Chinese people then send in doctors to examine the results under the guise of helping, the Raping of Nan King to the point of a Nazi party member begging Hitler to get the Emporer to stop, using POWs for soldiers to practice beheading with their swords, and many other things should be acknowledged.

Mainland Chinese should have started to dislike HKers before 1997 if they knew HKers dislike the Mainland Chinese already before 1997. Mainland china government knew HK dislike Mainland China before they agreed with the UK on the handover agreement in 1984. When China opened in late 1970s, HKers were shocked to find the education level and behaviors of the Mainland chinese a lot different from theirs due to westernisation of HK. There are some Mainland Chinese who think Hong Kongers should push for more democracy. In fact, Mainland Chinese is disliked by many neiboring regions including South Koreans, Japanese, Taiwanese, Filipinos, Malaysians, Singaporeans, Bruneians, Indonesians, Vietnamese and westerners, including developing Argentines and Mexicans. Most of the worst beggers in HK, llike some parents holding some children, or a cardboard written in simplified chinese asking for HK$20 for a lunch, came from Mainland China, creating problems for HK society. Prostitutes soliciting on the streets without shame came from Mainland China or SE Asia. Or due to littering, spitting, not urinating in toilets, mothers giving births in HK to take advantage of the public welfare etc All those dislike from HKers are mostly understandable.

HK, Macau and Taiwan, and other developed countries in Asia like Japan, South Korea and Singapore are no doubt more "civilised societies", a term commonly used in Mainland China , than Mainland China. There are of course bad people in every country. There is no point in argueing. Maybe fighting when conflicting with others, spitting, littering and talking loudly are socially acceptable in Mainland china, but it is a big NO in other places.

South Korea hates communism, both North Korea and China. South Koreans also hate the bad behaviors of most chinese.

What South Korea and China shares the most in common is anti-Japanese sentiment.

South Korea, and others like Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and NZ will not aligned with China politically, but will seek closer economic and cultural ties with China, their governments believe is good to their countries.

Taiwanese have been hating communist china since 1945, the KMT actively promoted hating communist countries, Soviet Union, PRC, North Korea, North Vietnam etc in Taiwan. Famous Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng, who parents fled from Mainland China to Taiwan, would never step foot on Mainland China because she disliked PRC government.

Mainlnd chinese have been hating the KMT and DPP too until recently, KMT is no longer hated. And both KMT and DPP are Taiwanese.

And the "dislike" will certainly matter.

Not that simple. Some Taiwanese are against anything about China, or in Chinese term 逢中必反。
Teng loved China but disliked ccp. Many Taiwanese hate both China and ccp now.

Taiwanese hate Mainland Chinese for a lot of things, not just politics. The behaviors and attitude of Mainland chinese are also reasons for the hate.

Taiwanese's most hated thing is Mainland Chinese claiming Taiwan as part of PRC. Almost all Taiwanese disagree with this. They will say Taiwan is ROC or Taiwan is just Taiwan, nothing to do with the PRC
