Hu Jintao does not speak standard Mandarin (so he struggles with the pronunciation sometimes). You should use Xi Jinping to represent Mandarin speakers.

A better idea is to use news broadcast.
Japanese sounds good from females, not males IMO.
The sound system is a little too simplistic to my taste. Too few vowels in the sound inventory.
Japanese for sure, sounds more friendly and calm.
Chinese always sound like they are complaining.
Because they really are complaining! Chinese tourists complain a lot, I sometimes feel sorry for those whose jobs are to serve them.
Japanese are known to apologize profusely. While learning how to speak Japanese, our instructor demonstrated so many contexts wherein one would say "Sumimasen" (Sorry!). As a tourist in Japan, I ask for help such as directions and other such matters from strangers, and if they can't speak good enough English or don't know the answer, most Japanese politely say "sumimasen". Contrast that with people in parts of Europe who flat out say "No" or just gesture that they are unwilling to help and shoo people away!
I always preferred the sound of Japanese compared to the sound of Mandarin Chinese. To me, Japanese this seems to have a better flow.
