Japan was/is #2, #3 / 100 countries in GDP. It is a top3 wealth country in the world.


They own the 3rd most Fortune 500 companies. How/why did Japan economy have so much debt?

Japan 11 trillion in debt vs Japan 4 trillion in gdp = -7 trillion deficit

It’s almost completely owned by Japanese ppl. Japan is by far the largest creditor nation.

Japan lost WWII and had to pay war reparations and had to rebuild itself too from all the bombings

the question should be asked on the US. despite not being destroyed during the war, it is in the same boat as Western Europe and Japan in terms of debt
