The problem with the current situation is that all of Asia sees how the US is unwilling to deal with wars outside the "far west". What war has the US won in Asia during the past few decades, especially with on that has the Chinese on the other side? China was "fueling" the Taliban somewhat in Afghanistan too.
Maybe a better way to say it, is the U.S. has failed to meet its military objectives in Asia and particularly the far East. I do agree the Asian track record is rather spotty. But in the U.S. defense it is hard to fight Asian wars. The cost is astronomical due to logistics. The population is often super amped up to fight, and few if any really see the U.S. as liberators.
Back to the subject on hand, Singapore hit the geographical jackpot being located on the straits of Malacca. I suspect any nation that attacks it would immediately find itself going against a coalition of forces due to the strategic nature of the location.
Singapore is very well armed. Despite its small size and population, pound for pound as they say in boxing, it's one of the top militaries in the world.

In addition, there's no military strategic value in occupying Singapore.
I not really necessary. There are plenty of islands in those straights you can take over, or just any spot on the Malay Peninsula, or Sumatra. You just need it for a stopover/rest stop. It does not have to be right at the opening.
Now if Singapore starts blocking the straits, that is another story.

Singapore's military is untested. When was the last time they fought a war? Playing war games isn't the same as actually fighting. Not trying to throw shade, but I wouldn't' consider them a top military in the world. Israel has been battle tested multiple times, earning their respect.
Well the Singapore armed forces are relatively new formed around 1965. After the last British armed forces pulled out in the early 70’s they were on their own. Some of their earliest support and training were provided by the Israelis. They also have a contingent of Gurkhas serving with their police.
Singapore also has a strong relationship with the United States. Currently for instance there are three Singapore Air Force training detachments operating in the US with another to be established in Guam in the near future. In a worse case scenario of invasion there would be some US involvement.
