If we appreciate the Martin song as a novelty, but don't embrace it as an actual anthem, that still leaves us without an official song. I propose a competition where those so inclined submit their songs in nomination and at the next National Atheist's convention, have them presented and submitted to a vote. The winner becomes our anthem.
I'll start. This is to the tune of "There's No Business Like Show Business"
It's not odd
That there's no god
It's cheap fiction we know
Everything about it is so phony
Every church a temple to a sham
Threats of hell ain't gonna hurt or phase us
Oh you can haze us
Still we're not damned...amned
There's none keener
Than blasphemers
Religion our big foe
There simply ain't no consequences for our sins
We live our lives and then that's the end
You may think that Jesus is your special friend
But he's dead we all know....oh
To god we just say "no"
I'm gonna be honest and say I hate this song clip.
I've seen it many times, and yes it has been posted on here before. There are many versions of Steve Martin and his band singing this on YouTube.
The reasons I hate it are:
1. Why does Steve Martin need a song sheet? He knows the words of the song. He reads from the song sheet on every other clip as well. It's not a hard song to remember, in fact it's very simplistic. And Steve Martin has the easiest words. This just annoys me (I'm easily annoyed ).
2. It's tuneless. Sorry. I just hate it.
I don't like it either because whether he is an agnostic or not he is supporting the foolishness of believers with this skit.

Nice. I wish i could remember a rewrite of 'You've gotta have heart' as 'you've gotta have faith'. but probably not appropriate as an atheist anthem.
