I'm actually way more worried about the government wanting to take even more money out of my paycheck and trying to set up a socialist state than I am about a theocracy.
I see nothing wrong with a city government listing the locations of churches because there's a large number of people who are interested. There are all sorts of Nashville websites that are linked to each other and represent various neighborhoods and what there is to do in each of them as well as the official Nashville government website which has all sorts of things like entertainment, jobs, etc. The separation of church and state just means that our government is not allowed to endorse a particular religion, it doesn't mean they're prohibited from disclosing the locations of churches of various religions. There's nothing wrong with that at all, in fact it would be a kind of official prejudice if any information regarding religious activities had to be withheld from the public if it involved a local or state government entity while any other kind of information is freely available. I don't see any issue here at all.
When did "god" get taken out of the pledge of allegiance? One of the reasons I stopped saying it in school was because of that word and the fact that I disagree with the statement, "And liberty and justice for all," among other things.

Personally as an agnostic, I really don't care whether the Pledge contains "under God" or not, although I consider the separation of Church and State crucial. To me the Pledge is a relative non-issue, as most kids have absolutely no thought as to what they are saying anyway. I would rather fight other battles. It also doesn't bother me if a city website has churches listed. As long as they don't have only ONE church.

You can sometimes get off for a crime because you have the best lawyer a money can buy and because you're poor, you're sometimes stuck with a public defender who can't do squat. There are other examples but I hope you get my point.
I'm not trying to make a battle of it. That sort of thing will probably get me shot.

A city in my state had an issue come up in it's City Council meeting and I wanted to check out where they have the city meetings.
I got on a search engine, typed "[name of city] city council," I click on the link, and it tells me. So I go to the main page and there is a section for churches in the city.
I always thought there was separation between church and state and I just find it a bit odd for the city to just list all the churches in the city.
It just seems like the city is encouraging its citizens to go to church.
The city I live in doesn't even do that on its website and no where else have I seen it on another city's site (but then again I haven't looked up every city in America's website).
Any one else find this....weird, offensive?
I bet I'm going to get labeled as the fragile girl or the one who takes herself too seriously but oh well. I've been called much worse.

I.. really don't get it. Atheism is not pigeon holing the public life and making everything be non-religious. We choose not to follow any specific religion, cult, or whatever. We live on planet Earth. Our life is the exact same as a Christian, Buddhist, Muslim - Just without religion.
If the town wants to post a listing of churches - So be it. They are only supplying a list of things to do about the town. If they were posting Gyms or Recreational activities, are the overweight going to scream 'offense offense'? No. The town is simply showing what it has to offer. That's all.
No need to take offense to a list of churches.
Edit - I saw a few people mention the Pledge. Personally, I never say it in school. I don't put my hand over my heart, I don't acknowledge the flag, I don't say the pledge - Why? I don't feel right with the word 'God' being in there. Am I going to cause a big commotion over a 30 second song? Absolutely not. I deal with it. People need to stop blowing huge fits over little (and stupid) things. If I was forced to pray everyday, and then scream "I love God" walking down the streets - I'd have a problem. But a list on a website, or a 30 second song - Isn't going to offend me. Man up, people.

Of course. I agree with you, we don't actually all have liberty and justice (especially under the Bush administration! ), but I suppose I view it more as a pledge to the ideals of this nation, rather than a statement of plain fact.
