what do you think is the cause of the existence of our universe ?
I think there are 3 options.
1. The univerese exists eternally, in one form, or the other, had no beginning.
2. The universe had a beginning, with the Big Bang, but without a cause.
3. The universe had a beginning, and therefore a cause.
If there are other options, which do not fit in one of these three categories, please name them.
If you agree, there exist basically only the above options, please explain, which option you think is most plausible, and why.
It may be that our universe is but one of many in what has come to be called the "multiverse" theory which would be a variation of option number one above. Taking that into account I think that our existence can best be explained by the philosophy of deism.
Deism is the belief in a supreme being, who remains unknowable and untouchable. God is viewed as merely the “first cause” and underlying principle of rationality in the universe. Deists believe in a god of nature -- a noninterventionist creator -- who permits the universe to run itself according to natural laws. Like a “clockmaker god” initiating the cosmic process, the universe moves forward, without divine supervision relying instead on precise and unvarying laws that define the universe as self-operating and self-explanatory. These laws reveal themselves through “the light of reason and nature.” Reliance on the power of reasoning exchanges faith for human logic.
Thus, deism dovetails nicely with science and the theory of evolution. To explain "our existence" or the origin of life and human beings the deist concept of God is the "why" and evolution is the "how."
We may not be capable of explaining out existence with the knowledge we have now. All we can do is look at the evidence we have, formulate sound scientific theories that are falsifiable and draw our conclusions. Lack of a total answer in no way, shape or form elevates the belief in a supernatural cause for our existence. There is no more credibility to projecting an invisible god creator than there is projecting our existence to Magical Pixie Dust. If the theories we have today are falsified, science will pick itself up, dust itself off and start to look for new explanations.
Again, lack of an answer in no way points to gods. That argument is weaker than weak. If you say god created the universe and god has always been around, you might as well break out Occam and say the universe has always been around. We may never know the ultimate answers. All we know know is that the universe is unimaginably large and to project special creation on a tiny dot of it is terribly arrogant and self-serving.
1) What you believe in has always existed, or
2) Something was created out of nothing
It seems impossible, but maybe that's because our brains cannot comprehend it. We don't have anything to reference to in the physical world that has either existed forever or has been created out of nothing.
